Swap Toys with Retoy
Retoy toy-exchange events give children the opportunity to bring toys from home and exchange them for toys other children have brought. These events are another way to demonstrate practical, sustainable consumption patterns with toys and play as a language to reach children. Several successful to-exchanges have been held and will continue to be an important part of Retoys outreach and awareness building activities. The events are targeted to children ages 3 through 10, and is a meeting place where all children are welcomed and included. A toy-exchange event includes, toy-swapping and Retoy Lab:
- Toy-swapping, each child drops off toys that they have brought from home, and will in return get to pick as many new toys as they brought to the party.
- Retoy Lab are interactive workshops on two main themes, children’s rights and a toy’s life, where children learn about the environment and global relations using the toy as a tool. Retoy Lab are lead by a Retoy pedagogue with the support of volunteers.
The purpose of the toy-exchange events is to make children aware of issues of sustainability and their role in creating a sustainable future. Knowledge will be communicated through Retoy Labs, which will be put into action through lending, giving and recycling and, thus, reinforced.
